illuzion welcomes the best Incineroar in the world, skyjay, to the team!

Today, we are kicking up the heat here at IlluZion by signing on the greatest Incineroar player on the planet, Skyjay. Currently sitting at the 41 spot on the recent Orion Rankings, as well as number six on the official Mexican Ultimate Power Rankings, just below the likes of MkLeo, Sparg0, Maister, Chag, and BigBoss, Skyjay is viewed today as a burgeoning force in the Mexican Ultimate scene. Check out below to find out more about him, and how he became top six in Mexico in only three years of playing.

Juan "Skyjay" Pablo's journey into competitive Smash began, funnily enough, on a whim when he decided to accompany his friend to play some Ultimate friendlies that were happening at his school. This lit a fire in Skyjay, a fire that drove him to immediately start competing in local tournaments in his area, where he began to almost instantly find success, such as when he defeated his region's best player, YoungBasedLord (formerly Pablo), after only a few months of playing. Only a year into his career, Skyjay would be ranked 27th on the first iteration of the Mexican Ultimate Power Rankings.

Everything was going great for Skyjay, who was absolutely flourishing on the Mexican national scene. However, his progress at offline tournaments would be halted with the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, which completely shutdown all in-person tournaments for more than a year. This was a very unfortunate setback for Skyjay, with him even admitting that, "when online came, I was afraid of not being able to show what I was truly capable of." However, the online era would actually prove to be one of the best things to happen to Skyjay's career, as he was able to play some of the best players in the world more easily now. This accessibility to top talent allowed him to score a victory over the greatest Ultimate player in the world, MkLeo. By the time the online era was over, Skyjay emerged as the 30th best player in the world on the Wi-Fi Warrior Rank v7.

Following the return of offline competition, Skyjay has done very well for himself; he has not dipped below 33rd at any major that he has attended in both 2021 and 2022, with his best placement coming at The Smash World Tour Championships where he placed 9th, defeating some of the world's best in Larry Lurr and Fatality. He has also racked up wins over other great players like Elegant, Myran, Ned, Jakal, and MVD.

As mentioned above, Skyjay was recently ranked number 41 on the latest Orion Rankings. This is an impressive feat for one who has only been competing since after Ultimate's release. However, Skyjay's ambition extends far further than just being the 41st best player in the world, with him sharing with me that, "Believe me, I am aiming for the top spot in the rank. It will be difficult, but I will work hard everyday to make my dream come true!"

With his first tournament with us, Double Down, coming up this weekend, the future of IlluZion seems to be burning brighter with the addition of Skyjay to our roster. Everyone, make him feel welcome!
